Rajaji National Park:
Situated on the edge of the Dehradun valley, Chila is a place 20 kms far from Rishikesh and 32 kms. Circle (road) in park. The Rajaji national park was established in 1966 and covers an area of about 820 sq. kms. The park offers exciting opportunities of viewing the wild in there natural habitat. The wildlife here includes elephant, tiger, panther, bear, chital, sambar, wild boar, kakar, python, monitor lizard and a large variety of avian fauna. From 15 th June to 15 th November the park remains closed.
Distance: 20 kms. from Rishikesh by Jeap and 35 kms. inside the park by jeap or elephant safari app. 6 kms.
Trip duration: 4-6 hours.
Nanda Devi National Park:
The Nanda Devi national park has a unique combination of flora and fauna. It is spread over 630 sq. kms. Of area in the vicinity of Nanda Devi peak (7816 mts.) India 's second highest mountain. This park was established in 1980. The natural sanctuary was first entered in 1934 by British mountaineers, Eric Shipton and Bill Tilman. Apart from tilman successful attempt on Nanda Devi in 1936 the area remained virtually undisturbed until the 1950 when there was an increase in the climbing and trekking expeditions into the area. The faunal species include snow leopard, brown and Himalayan black bears, bharal, Himalayan tahr, serow, monal and chir pheasants. The best time to visit is May to October.
Distance: 300 kms. from Rishikesh by road. Then trekking 4-6 kms. everyday till 4-5 days.
Trip duration: 6-7 days.
Corbet National Park :
This Park is spread over an area of 520 sq. kms. along of the Ramganga river. The dense Sal forests and the tall grassy meadows make it one of the richest areas of northern India for the habitation of the big mammals. This park is established in 1936 by the then Governor Sir Malcolm Hailey. Project tiger was launched with the help of world wildlife fund on April 1973, making the Corbett park a haven for the tigers. The lake in the park attracts a large number of species of water birds. From 15 th June to 15 th November the park remains closed.
The tiger is the biggest attraction of this park. Other carnivores include the leopard, elephant, bear, hog, sambar deer, muntjac and fox. The park has more then 300 species of birds. The common birds seen here are ducks, snipe, egrets, herons, spotted eagle, harrier, woodpecker, darter, cormorants and thrushes.
Distance: 300 kms. from Rishikesh by road. App. 6 hours in park by jeap safari.
